We offer courses in General English, Business English, and IELTS.
There are also Higher Education courses: CELTA and Delta (teacher training).
Each General English course consists of the four key skills of Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. There are also Grammar and conversation classes. At the end of the courses you can take a University of Cambridge ESOL examination in the school.
The maximum class size is 16 although there are usually fewer students than this in most classes.
The courses continue all year, and the school only closes for Easter and Christmas, as well as Bank Holidays (in May and August).
The English Language Centre welcomes all students aged 18 and over.
We offer group classes at all levels from A2 to C2.
We do not currently run group classes for beginners or elementary but we can offer private one-to-one tuition.
More than ever, a good knowledge of English is needed to succeed in international business and commerce. If you can show you have relevant language skills you'll have a great advantage in the jobs market and much greater flexibility if you want to work abroad.
We do not have any classes running currently in Business English. If you need some tuition in this area please contact us. If there is sufficient demand we will set up a new course. Alternatively we can offer one-to-one private tuition in Business English. This can be tailored to your specific requirements, such as preparation for giving a talk or delivering a business seminar in English.
IELTS is the International English Language Testing System. It measures ability to communicate in English
across all four language skills - listening, reading, writing and speaking - for people who intend to study
or work where English is the language of communication.
The test scores candidates in a range from 1 (non-user) to 9 (expert user). Scores of 6.5 and above are usually accepted by academic institutions worldwide as demonstrating an appropriate level of English language proficiency, including university entrance in the UK.
Highly regarded, internationally recognised Higher Education qualifications (Level 5 and Level 7). The CELTA introductory course is for trainees who have little or no previous experience of teaching. Trainees are equipped for first teaching positions. Teaching practice with foreign adult students is delivered on site. Delta is a course for experienced teachers who wish to further their careers.
In addition to the Examination certificate issued by Cambridge University on passing an examination, we can provide a certificate which shows the dates of the course attended, and the level of English achieved.
